Cooking Made Simple for Elderly Loved Ones

Home help for the elderly

Food is a big part of our lives and as we age our metabolism slows down and certain medication or health conditions can make it harder to digest certain foods. It is often easier to buy convenience meals, especially if living alone. These instant meals can be high in sugar and sodium, which is harmful to those with heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Here are some top tips for making cooking simple.

Be prepared

Sitting down and working out which meals you want to eat for the week is a great way to keep mentally active and ensure that you’re eating a healthy diet. It will also make it a lot easier when writing out your shopping list. Once you have your list, you can go shopping! This is the perfect way to get out of the house for some gentle exercise, and is also a great way to socialise. If you need support, then your Unique Senior Care Caregiver will be on hand to help with whatever tasks you may need extra help with.

Get Cooking

Now, it’s time to create something delicious – this can be done daily with your Caregiver. If they only visit a few times a week, then you can meal prep and pop it in the fridge or freezer. This will make it very easy to get yourself a nice, healthy lunch or dinner when your Caregiver isn’t there. Simple cookbooks will help to prep tasty meals and a smoothie will ensure you get your 5 a day!
