Spotlight on: Dementia Care at Unique Senior Care

Spotlight on: dementia care

Living with dementia can be a frightening and debilitating experience, and poses challenges for both individuals and their families. According to The Alzheimer’s Society, one in six people over the age of 80 have dementia and it is one of the main causes of disability later in life.

When elderly people living with dementia need extra care, tailored one-to-one at-home care is often the preferred option over residential care. This is because changes to their routine or environment can seem particularly daunting and can sometimes make the condition worse. At-home care not only helps them manage their condition in the comfort of familiar surroundings, but will help families take break, whilst having the peace of mind that their loved one is receiving the highest quality care.

We therefore offer a range of services to support people living with dementia and help them live a fulfilling and independent life at home.

Our Dementia Care service

Here at Unique, we have many years of experience supporting older people to maintain their independence. As a result, our Caregivers all receive bespoke training to give them the skills they need to care for sufferers of dementia, so they get the care they deserve.

Rather than focusing on the symptoms and treatments of dementia, we use simple and effective techniques. As a result, we can help to manage the varied and often challenging behaviours the disease can cause. We also work closely with existing service providers to reduce the difficulties individuals with dementia face.

Whether you need support for just a few hours a week or 24 hours a day, seven days a week care, we are here to support you. Our Caregivers never visit for less than an hour. This way, we ensure that our clients get the very best care imaginable. Every person is unique, therefore the service we provide will reflect the individual needs of our clients, whatever they may be.

A word from a Unique Caregiver…

“Quite a few of my clients have dementia. My father suffers with dementia so I understand the heartache that family members go through, seeing their relative or loved one become a stranger. But as a carer I see this person who needs someone to help them lead a life of some normality, someone who doesn’t judge them for forgetting who I am, or for getting frustrated because they don’t understand. I am there as a friend and a carer, to help them live a life of dignity and respect. I love my job and enjoy giving care to our clients – and if I can make a difference to their lives, however small, then I’m proud to be me.” – Gill Gulliver
