Philip Maundrill, Co-founder and Director at Unique Senior Care

Leading from experience and a commitment to people-first home care.

Philip Maundrill is Co-Founder and Director at Unique Senior Care. He helped establish the company in 2011 after supporting his mum through vascular dementia and seeing how much difference reliable and respectful support can make. As the eldest of three, he moved back to Warwickshire to help care for her, which shaped his understanding of what families need from a well-run service.

Philip plays a key role in the operational running of the organisation, helping ensure services are safe, consistent and aligned with the Fundamental Standards set by the Care Quality Commission. Under his guidance, both the Solihull and Coventry services have been rated Outstanding.

Before co-founding the company, Philip worked in the corporate sector, developing experience in management and organisation within the food industry. This, along with his personal insight into arranging care, helped shape the company’s practical, steady and person-centred approach.

He also supports ongoing improvement across the business, contributing to the organisation’s achievement of three Princess Royal Training Awards for excellence in developing its people.

Philip believes that dependable systems, thoughtful planning and a commitment to doing things properly are key to delivering high-quality care in people’s own homes.

How Phil supports colleagues and clients

Phil plays an important role in supporting the direction and day to day running of Unique Senior Care. Since co founding the company in 2011, he has helped shape a steady and reliable service where colleagues feel supported and families can depend on safe, consistent care.

He works closely with operational teams to make sure services are well organised and well coordinated. His focus on clear systems and practical oversight gives colleagues the confidence and structure they need to deliver respectful, dependable support.

Phil champions open communication and thoughtful decision making, helping create an environment where staff feel informed and able to focus on positive outcomes for clients and their families. His own experience of seeing care that fell short has shaped his commitment to high standards and to creating services that families can genuinely trust.

He has contributed to the organisation’s achievement of three Princess Royal Training Awards, reflecting the strength of our training and development, and aligning with wider standards promoted by Skills for Care.

Phil also works with local partners and community groups to strengthen understanding of care. By focusing on strong standards, steady leadership and supportive working practices, he helps ensure colleagues feel equipped and clients receive consistent care in their own homes.

My insights on safe, reliable care

"My interest in care really began when I was helping to support my mum. I saw both good and poor practice, and it showed me how much it matters when support is steady, respectful and done properly. Those experiences shaped the standards I hold today.

I’ve learnt that reliable care depends on clear routines and steady organisation. When colleagues know what’s expected and feel backed up, they can focus fully on the person in front of them rather than worrying about everything around them.

For me, it comes down to doing things properly and giving families a service they can feel confident in every day."

How I got into my role

"Supporting my mum as her dementia progressed showed me the reality of care at home and in residential settings. We kept her at home for as long as we could and saw both the good and the not so good. As the eldest of three, I was the one she turned to, and I therefore felt responsible for ensuring she had the right care.

"Those experiences made me see how much families rely on steady organisation and support they can trust. After years working in management in the food industry, I reached a point where I wanted to apply what I had learnt in a way that felt more meaningful."

"That is what led to starting Unique Senior Care and taking on a role where I could help build a service that gives families real reassurance."
