Philip Wright-Howarth, Co-founder and Director at Unique Senior Care

Leading with integrity and a commitment to consistent, high-quality care.

Philip Wright-Howarth is Co-Founder and Director at Unique Senior Care. Since establishing the company with his business partner in 2011, he has focused on building a reliable, person-centred service that families can trust. His role covers strategic leadership, operational oversight, and maintaining the standards that guide how care is delivered each day.

Phil’s expectations of what good care looks like were shaped long before the company was founded. As the younger brother of Susan, who had a significant learning disability, he supported and coordinated her care for more than 25 years. Those experiences gave him a clear understanding of the difference that steady, respectful and genuinely person-centred support makes to both the individual and their family.

He is closely involved in steering the organisation as it grows, keeping the company’s values at the heart of every decision. Phil works with teams across the business to support safe, dependable care and ensure colleagues have the structure and guidance they need.

Before founding Unique Senior Care, Phil worked in senior roles within the corporate sector. His earlier experience, combined with his personal insight into what families need when arranging care, has shaped the company’s approach to reliability, compassion and professionalism.

Phil believes that clear processes, steady leadership and well-supported teams directly influence the quality and continuity of care people receive at home.

How Phil supports colleagues and clients

Phil plays a central role in guiding the direction of Unique Senior Care and creating the conditions where colleagues can do their best work. Since co-founding the company in 2011, he has helped build a stable, values-driven service that families can rely on for consistent, high-quality care. His long experience supporting his Sister, who had a significant learning disability, also shaped his belief that dependable, person-centred support must underpin every decision.

He works closely with operational teams to make sure services are safe, well-co-ordinated and delivered in line with the Fundamental Standards set by the Care Quality Commission. As the company’s Nominated Individual, he helps maintain clear processes and strong governance. This gives colleagues the clarity, structure and confidence they need to provide dependable, respectful care every day.

Phil supports colleagues by championing steady oversight, open communication and thoughtful decision-making. His leadership helps create a well-organised environment where staff feel informed and able to focus on delivering positive outcomes for clients and their families.

He has also supported the organisation’s achievement of three Princess Royal Training Awards, recognising the strength of our training and development. This work aligns with wider sector expectations outlined by Skills for Care, promoting high standards that benefit both colleagues and the people they support.

Phil also works with local groups and external partners to strengthen community understanding of care. By focusing on clear leadership, strong standards and a supportive working environment, Phil helps ensure colleagues feel equipped in their roles and clients receive safe, dependable care in their own homes.

My insights on leadership and quality

"Strong care starts with clear standards. When colleagues know what’s expected and feel supported, they can focus fully on the people they’re looking after."

"I’ve always believed that reliability is one of the most important parts of home care. Families need to feel confident that the care we provide is safe and consistent, and that comes from steady leadership and well-run services."

"When we give colleagues structure, clarity and the reassurance that help is there when they need it, the quality naturally follows for clients and their families."

How I got into my role

"After losing my parents, I took on the responsibility of supporting my Sister, who had a significant learning disability. Seeing the difference that respectful, person-centred care made to her life shaped my belief that home care should always be reliable and centred on the individual."

"I wanted to build a service that felt steady and well-run and that families could trust. This led me to co-found Unique Senior Care, and it’s why I stay closely involved in how we lead, plan and support our teams."

"For me, it has always been about doing things properly and making sure the care we offer is the kind of care I’d want for my own loved ones."
